Thanks Chris for sending me the link to this YouTube video. Incredible. Vista positively looks dated! Have you seen this 3D desktop? I’ve heard people raving for the past couple of weeks about a new uber-Linuz which looks spiffy, but till just now, I’ve seen no reason to take them seriously.
I’m serious - If all my software could be ported to Linux, I’d be over there right now. This thing looks incredible!
Domo arigatio Mr. PC! The Japanese do “I’m a Mac” ads too, so it seems…
For those who are wondering, my limited knowledge of the Japanese language *cough* Google Translator! *cough* tells me that the Mac in the advert used the informal Japanese for ‘hello’, whereas the PC used the far more traditional ‘Konnichiwa’. That is how you spell it, right?
Moving back to the English language, it seems Novell have gone down the viral advertising root, spoofing the highly popular Mac ads that we see all around is, in now-a-days modern culture.
She needs a haircut! Anthony thinks she’s just a ‘cute chick’ though. The YouTube community seemed rather amused also with the comments they left the video.
I think the Linux girl should be about 40 pounds overweight to reflect the awful bloated Novell java apps.
And that’s the end of that… A Zi Media update is coming sometime today! Check the new poll and get yourself high on sugar-coated HTML tags before the launch on Friday!
Today, it seems that there’s no one thing that I really want to write about, so here’s an informal, general list of links & things that I think you guys might like.
- Social Media… The cover taken off. (This cracked me up for about 5 minutes whilst my PC was frozen thanks to some Vista-incompatible software!)
- Silent USB Linux powered machines have hit Europe, smashing onto the arena at only €280. (Go me! I just found the euro-key on my new keyboard! Alt Gr + 4. I knew it was something like that…)
- Viacom have sued YouTube/Google $1billion for ‘unauthorized use of clips’. Seems slightly excessive to me… While I’m here, I’d like to announce that I’m suing Digg $10billion for crashing my servers. (Note to lawyerbots, that was indeed, a feeble joke. No need to smite me!)
- Having seen John Chow’s post on checking whether China is banning you blog, I decided to check it out for myself. Guess what? Turns out China have blocked me & my site. I’m not the only one though… Turns out that free-speech & wikis don’t cut the chase for the Chinese government.
Where’s the bag? Thanks to SwinMan, no bag needed! Using their special inside-our waterproofing technology, Shuffle’s can now be made fully waterproof at up to depths of 10 foot, without the need of bulky plastic bags. Also great if you feel like rocking to some tunes in the shower, provided you can find somewhere to clip the device. No suggestions made on our part. Let’s look at the price comparisson.
So why shell out that bit extra? Well, included in the price you get the 2G iPod Shuffle itself, the SwimMan Waterproofing Technology & a SwimMan Waterproof Headset. All-in-all, according to the official website, this is worth far more than what they’re charging for it. Also included is a one-year warranty, and a 30-day money back guarantee, no questions asked.
This package includes both the 2nd Generation Apple Ipod Shuffle waterproofed by SwimMan and the SwimMan Waterproof Headset. Shuffle comes in original package with original accessories (charging dock, iPod non-waterproof headphones, foam earbud pads, manuals, warranty info, etc.) SwimMan Waterproof Headset also comes with manual.
Is this hype? Is this worth it? Would you use it? Leave your comments and let us know, we’re interested to hear your thoughts! Sourced from Engadget.
I dare say that message containing the words ‘Apple’ and ‘Linux’ are marked as spam amongst the 620,000 other odd messages he receives every day. Dilbert doesn’t care though, and manages to make a very funny scene out of it. But seriously guys… I think Bill Gates is better than he seems.
In other news, Robert Scoble said this about me… ‘You write extremely well for a 12-year-old. I was reading your blog and not realizing your age. My son just turned 13 and he doesn’t write this well.‘ Cool, huh? That said, I turn 13 this coming February. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could ask for? Anyone feel like giving me anything? ;) Feel free to drop me an e-mail at David [at] Techzi [dot] net
Blu Ray v2. No, it’s not called HD-DVD, but is actually codenamed ‘Sapphire’. Unfortunately, they were only given the most brief of mentions at Sony’s CES Press Conference, and we’re hoping to find out more juicy details soon.
All we do know is that the two current models are reported to have some pretty fancy-sounding features, that will hopefully include a better loading time. According to Engadget:
“Named Sapphire 1 and 2, we don’t know what makes them different from each other, but the only features listed are 1080p24 output, and support for x.v.Color, Sony’s term for the xvYCC expanded color space.”
So I’ll just go with them on that one. It will be interesting to see what new features they both incorporate, because without some slightly more impressive stats, I see no reason to particularly favour these beasts yet. Of course, one year on from now, at the beginning of 2008, we’ll all be using BLU-HD-RAY-DVDs and be running them on Tri-boot systems with Mac Os X, Windows Vista, and whatever spiffy open source OS Linux can throw at us by then.
Fellow blogger Ben, from OpenSwitch, had some spare time over the festive season, and made himself a rather snazzy Ubuntu Linux mousemat, emblazoned with the trademark phrase, ‘Linux for human beings’.
Very spiffy, I think you’ll agree. Nice one Ben! Who else noticed that he’s using a Microsoft mouse and keyboard though?
If your spanking new PS3’s 60GB HDD just isn’t big enough, then will 750GB suffice? At least, it’s the biggest that can be fitted to date, courtesey of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750 GB HDD. It’s only now, that after months of negativity driven in laser guided hoards towards Sony, that the console’s true hackability is starting to shine through it’s beautifully wrapped, plastic gloss coating.
Kotaku is reporting that, “Console hacking enthusiasts have already taken the first steps towards making the PS3 backup friendly, installing LINUX and using it to dump a 7.08GB ISO file from Madden 07 onto an external hard drive. Pool Boy over at PS3News points out that this is exactly how the PSP backup scene got started, and that the PS3 file structure closely resembles the one used in PlayStation Portable games.”
We’re not sure what to make of these, but they look brilliant, and for £30 we’ll be getting our hands on one, or two, or maybe three of these for the next time we sit down for a staff meeting, but unfortunately we’ve not been able to try these yet. Our friends over at The Register have though. They tell us that these slick little devices have caused mayhem all over the country, bringing whole departments to standstills.
Warning: However laughable this may seem at the moment, it won’t be long between this turns into a full scale war between Windows, Apple and Linux.
Update: Inevitably, Linux guerrillas are already bombarding Windows and Apple users with these portable Weapons Of Mass Destruction.
