Rather than write some long-windedpage with reasons to switch to GMail, Google have played things nice and simple and gone down the Web 2.0 road, creating Google Theatre: Episode One.
To date, the video has been viewed over 1,000,000 times, and truth be told, it’s a wonder that more companies don’t make use of the services that they actually own. Yahoo, for example, could be greatly benefitting off traffic and leads through MyBlogLog, but instead rarely use the service to their own ends. Now I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, but if done right (as with this funny lil’ YouTube video), then the viral factor WILL kick in. Kudos to you, Google, and keep up the great work!
Today, it seems that there’s no one thing that I really want to write about, so here’s an informal, general list of links & things that I think you guys might like.
- Social Media… The cover taken off. (This cracked me up for about 5 minutes whilst my PC was frozen thanks to some Vista-incompatible software!)
- Silent USB Linux powered machines have hit Europe, smashing onto the arena at only €280. (Go me! I just found the euro-key on my new keyboard! Alt Gr + 4. I knew it was something like that…)
- Viacom have sued YouTube/Google $1billion for ‘unauthorized use of clips’. Seems slightly excessive to me… While I’m here, I’d like to announce that I’m suing Digg $10billion for crashing my servers. (Note to lawyerbots, that was indeed, a feeble joke. No need to smite me!)
- Having seen John Chow’s post on checking whether China is banning you blog, I decided to check it out for myself. Guess what? Turns out China have blocked me & my site. I’m not the only one though… Turns out that free-speech & wikis don’t cut the chase for the Chinese government.
I feel rather sad, at present. The past two or three weeks, (Ever since I moved to Wordpress!) I’ve found myself constantly checking out & referencing my Technorati statistics for Techzi.net… The teasing button in the dashboard doesn’t help the matter, and I’ve now bookmarked my Technorati statistics page for quick reference.
Chris evidently symathises with me.
Here are Techzi’s current statistics as of today, Friday 9th March:
- 257 links coming in from…
- 157 blogs who know they’re spiffy.
- All this in exactly a month!
That reminds me, it is exactly a month since we re-launched over at Techzi.net! I think that calls for some kind of celebration, don’t you?
I myself have never had much luck with Slashdot myself, and it seems that my mate Chris Pirillo, is either trying to get himself slashdotted, or generally just make a point.
As usual, nice cartoon work by Brad Fitzpatrick. I also noticed this cartoon on his blog too…
.
Very nicely done. Sometimes things justslip out. It’s unavoidable, of course. Let’s all blame the software.
Sorry about no posts yesterday… Something major happened, which quite frankly distracted me from everything else. I’m still a little shocked about it, and my heart goes out to the family involved.
Anyhow, it seems bLaugh have the right end of the stick on this one…
So it seems that bLaugh, the popular blogging cartoon, is currently down. DOOM ON YOU! But this seems to be something pretty major… All of the cartoons, are displaying in IE as ‘little red Xs’, which we all know means only one thing. Hosting problems, or the dreaded ‘Server Maintenance‘ dudes! Well… This does suck. The latest comic out was the ‘Modern Day Bully’, which my daily e-mail from feedburner has pointed out. Else I wouldn’t have realised… Check it! Doomed ‘alt text’, or in IE, a big, fat, red X! By the way, that’s not a hot-link to bLaugh… All images there are down. 404 on the homepage too. Google cache is even having trouble rendering the site, because no external files ‘exist’. It can’t call images or style-sheets up as references, because they simply don’t exist. bLaugh is gone… And we’re hoping it’s only temporary!
Your heard it first at Techzi.
UPDATE: Over 90 minutes later, and still no news from Chris, or any one from the website. We’ll let you know when we hear some buzz.
SORTED:I woke up this morning to find the problem ’sorted’ out. Glad that all that’s been cleared up! Good going Chris, and according to MyBlogLog, you checked out my blog just last night.
Could this seriously be the future? Will we all be talking about ID in the future, as in a well established LinkedIn account?
But seriously… LinkedIn would be more useful. Who cares if MySpace has a trillion users… It’s not hald as practical as Xing, and other business related opportunities out there.
Another classic from bLaugh. Seriously, this content rocks! They have more ideas than a forest faerie canoing. That doesn’t actually make any sense what so ever though. aka, They seem to have more ideas than me.
I was going to refrain from blogging this one, till I came across I day when there was nothing to write about. But with iPhones and such, it doesn’t seem that this day will be coming anytime soon, so here it is. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, A Whole Lotta Nothing! Courtesy of bLaugh. As per usual.
One thing that really is annoying me, is the use of the GoDaddy logo everywhere on the bLaugh comics these days. Oh well, I can live with them, if only for the sake of a little bit of fun. But thanks to Google’s magical, mystical choosing powers, they partnered me up with eNom for the registration of Techzi.net - How thoughtful of them.
