San Jose, California: Commemorating 30 years of delivering products and technology to the embedded computing market, Intel Corporation today introduced the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 5300 series with extended life cycle support, the first to bring Intel architecture-based quad-core performance to the embedded segment.
Intel marked the launch here today with the unveiling of an Intel-themed embedded technology-based motorcycle by Orange County Choppers. The custom-built motorcycle boasts a Dual V-Twin engine pumping out 250 horsepower and equipped with GPS and fingerprint recognition, launched simultaneously in the Internet-based virtual world of Second Life, celebrates 30 years of Intel’s innovation and technology leadership in advancing embedded computing.
Orange County Choppers’ Paul Teutul Senior: “As Intel celebrates 30 years of innovation, we’ve created the most powerful and technologically advanced bike we’ve ever made to showcase the many ways the world benefits from Intel embedded technology,” said “In fact, we were amazed to discover how much Intel technology we have in our own shop. Beyond the Intel- powered PCs and servers, we have Intel processors embedded in many of the machines and devices that help us with every build.”
Intel’s VP & General Manager Doug Davis: “The breakthrough performance and power efficiency that characterize the industry’s first quad-core processors for embedded are as unmistakable as the raw power of the four cylinders of the Intel Chopper’s quad engine. This 250-horsepower chopper – designed using quad-core Intel computers – is more than just a mechanical powerhouse; it’s also a marvel of embedded technology with an ultra-mobile PC powering fingerprint recognition for security and a digital dashboard with ignition control, digital gauges, cameras that replace rear-view mirrors, integrated audio and video systems, GPS navigation and wireless connectivity.”
Intel engaged with Black Diamond Advanced Technology, a leader in the development of ultra-mobile computing systems, to integrate the motorcycle’s computerized controls and features that protect the computing system from moisture, dirt, shock and vibration and offer a computerized dashboard capable of being detached and used as a mobile PC.
Some of you may or may not know, that for several months now, I’ve been looking to launch my own blog media company. As of Friday, we hope to make the network live to the public and with the launch of Zi Media, a new ‘Zi Blog’ will arrive too. With four dedicated writers, excluding myself, the website is sure to be a great hit. The new blog (not yet live) will be focusing on everything automobile related. We’re hoping that with any luck, CarZi will get off to as great a start as TechZi has done and will evolve into a great community within the Zi Media Network.
I’m working with some of the best bloggers I could have hoped for and Nate, Anthony, Vinay and Matt are all out to make a name for themselves with the launch of CarZi. I’ll let them introduce themselves formally on the CarZi blog this Friday, as we launch, but till then, toodles! I’ve promised my mates I’ll meet them down at the park for a spot of football and I can’t realyl keep them waiting any longer.
Oh, and… (You didn’t think I’d finished, did you?)
Techzi has a new spiffy-ass Technorati ranking. Rank: 19,509 (555 links from 191 blogs) - We broke the 20k barrier! By the end of the year, I’m aiming for the 5k barrier, which if we can make, will be a real achievement. Looking back at the good fortune and progress we’ve had these past six months, I’m confident that we’ll be able to continue, full steam ahead on our way to blog-a-dom royalty.
Man-made has always has little things it can be proud of when it comes to gadgets. Whether it’s Mr. Crapper’s convenient flushable toilet, or the flexible toothbrush, we’re always raving about the latest released gadgets to our friends, both geeks & non-geeks.
I myself am getting my new PC this coming Monday, valued at $3,500. It’s a pretty impressive rig, but not half as mean as the one I’m about to show you! Matthew Sheil, an amateur pilot living in Sydney, Australia, somehow persuaded his bank to give him a $230,000 ‘moving house’ loan, which he then proceeded to spend on this ultimate Voodoo-PC rig.
The whole setup is controlled by 13 quad-core Voodoo PCs. For the video the designer has used 42-inch Philips Ambilight LCD screens and for those aircraft controls Matt has got Saitek’s X52 joystick and toggle. The experience inside the simulator is even better than that inside the original cockpit. The simulator pilot will feel the finest detail of piloting a 747 inside the cockpit that even includes the G-Forces, thanks to the high-end hydraulic systems installed in the setup.
So what can we do? Be green? Listen to our piggy nosed scientists? Buy the fancy new H2O emitting car? Who knows… We’re in trouble though. I care about the Internet, so perhaps I’ll take note.
A flying car? Not in our lifetime! Great as it seems, somehow, this still seem well-beyond anything we’ve currently managed to whip up. Sure, we’ve got hover crafts, but they’re not exactly 100 feet in the air. Asides, that thing is ugly.
Nevertheless, I can see when something like that could be extremely useful.
There are smart things to do in business, and not so smart things to do. Ford? Well… See for yourself. An easy mistake to make, but surely a car without brakes would cause an increase in accidents?
What a pity that the engine wasn’t optional either… Would have made a great birthday present, no? On the plus-side, it would have been street-legal for me to haul the thing up and down the road.
Two little tid-bits of car-related geek news. For those of you who have the money, Toshiba have released their concept ‘Bat Mobile’ car, that is apparently one of the most eco-friendly cars ever designed. “The eco-friendly prototype has a modular polycarbonate body, which allows you to change the look of the car according to your fancy. Top-it-all, the chassis of the car is also recyclable.” The Honda Extreme is a dual-cockpit design that looks set to take the world by storm. Check it out!
And it seems there will be no Aston Martin for Bond in his next film. A Bond Fan Site, has it direct, that instead, Bond will be driving the equally as classy Jaguar XF. Sweet stuff! Sourced from BornRich.
