Spam Or Die - Russian Mafia Style

Back when the Internet was young and new, the Russian Mafia would bribe website owners just when site’s were about to ‘go gold’ by threatening DOS attacks unless they paid up. Now it seems that the spammers are playin’ the bribary game, too. I just received this comment on my blog.

hello , my name is Richard and I know you get a lot of spammy comments ,

I can help you with this problem . I know a lot of spammers and I will ask them not to post on your site. It will reduce the volume of spam by 30-50% .In return Id like to ask you to put a link to my site on the index page of your site. The link will be small and your visitors will hardly notice it , its just done for higher rankings in search engines. Contact me icq 454528835 or write me tedirectory@yahoo.com , i will give you my site url and you will give me yours if you are interested. thank you

Bribary. Spamming. Idiocy. Plain and simple. He CANNOT stop the spamming. The e-mails that sent the message, all the same was located on the mail.ru server, comment IP was registered to a proxy-website based out of Atlanta, Georgia. I’m going to be contacting the website and asking for further details about the particular e-mail, asking them to produce any records they have (within reason and their T&C) that can help me further track down the mole. I’m not going legal, but I am taking this seriously.

If anyone has ICQ, feel free to hit the guy up and record everything he says. I’d love to hear what he’s got to say for himself.

Sheesh. What was he thinking. Maybe you should go about it another way and ask for a contract, guarantee and compensation if your spam levels do not drop ;)
