42-Inch HD Ready TV - $1000

Sheesh - you Americans have it all.
Selling for just under $1,000 at CostCo, the Magnavox 42″ HD-Ready LCD wipes the floor with other leading ‘32 inch models’, which here in the UK, are retailing for over half the price again. With a typical response time of 8ms (not fantastic, but not shabby by any means) and boasting full 1080p HD output, it’s no surprise that the deal is set to end early - with Gizmodo suggesting as soon as next Monday.
If I weren’t so loathed as to pay a $4000 foreign shipping fee, mark my words, I’d have snapped up one of these beaties and be using it as a second monitor. That said, a resolution of 1920×1080 is best left to more ‘easy’ tasks such as TV, media, etc - not large workspace usage and high-end graphics performance. But all the same. $1000…

I don’t know if it’s different overseas but in Canada Magnavox is a low-end brand.

Not bad! I’d like one for my office. There’s nothing like working on Windows or playing games on a 42 incher. Been lovin’ the free HDTV on the 42″ in my living room for over a year now.

42″ HDTV completely PWNS.
Imagine having two sets. “That’s one helluva office you got there, sir!”

Don’t know about the performance, but that is one huge TV.

Heh… You sum it up perfectly.

Seems like a pretty good price to me…

$1000 for 40+ inches TV? Cool……
But I too have worries like Brown - you never know how it could perform. And 8ms is shabby - its the norm for static images.

Yeah, point taken. My monitor is 3ms - no performance issues. An extra 5ms though in high colour, intense action sequences could be a bit… crappy.
