Geek Train - Hop on!

TechZi - 1st Birthday SEO-Fest

The start of a new year also brings the start of a new SEO campaign and sad as it sounds, you can get a slice of the Googley goodness too. ;)

This isn’t complicated stuff. It’s a link train. I link to you, you link to people, they link to more people, those people link to their friends who link to their friends who link to their… Yeah. It’s viral. And in commemeration of TechZi’s first birthday, alongside the nifty competition we’re running, you can take part in our free link train! Here’s the deal…

Geek Train - All aboard!

1 - Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and linkback to the blog(s) that put you on the list in the paragraph. You MUST do this. No-one plans on getting slapped for duplicate content any time soon, do they?

2 - Next, copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your own blog. If you’d like a different keyword for your blog then change it, when you do your post, and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword, provided the train keeps on spreading.

3 - Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.

4 - Add at least three new favourite blogs of yours to keep the train going, e-mail the blog owners (or comment on one of their posts) and insist that they post.

This is so not a good idea from an SEO point of view. Sorry lil dude, but it’s just not. It’s a spread-node link farm. May get you hurt SEO-wise.

If you post trains every day, like the infamous John Chow, you will inevitably get slapped in the face. On the other hand, the odd one won’t cause any long term damage, I don’t imagine.

I’m not out to game the system, I’m building my own and other people’s readership by spreading linklove.

That’s cool for you, because tag-linking is brilliant from SEO perspective. But people further down are going to end up with lists hundreds long. It’s great for you, because you get lots of links from lots of sites, all on topic. It’s not so great for them, because they have to post the whole thing in full.

Think of it as MLM, only with links, not money.

There’s also a lot who aren’t! :p Direct mail and email, SEO, PPC and good old fashioned media promotion are the way to go. :)

[…] This geeky locomotive was last seen at TechZi.net before pulling into Beyond the Rhetoric station. Even before it arrived here, it has already sent at least a half dozen backlinks and you’ve got to love that link juice when Google is in middle of a PageRank update. Could BTR get a PR6? With a little help from this meme, it just might. Choo choo! […]
