3 Cent Refund!
GoDaddy. One of the Internet’s biggest domain-name registrars, was kind enough on Sunday to send out a message to all of it’s buyers who bought domain names anytime after July 1st 2006. The killer?

You can claim a whopping 3 cents back one each domain name purchased through the vendor, after details emerged that the supplier had overstated ICANN charges at ‘25 cents’ as opposed to the actual fee of ‘22 cents’. I think it’s great that such a large company can take such a small amount of cash per customer seriously (particularly as 3 cents per domain actually amounts to quite a large figure when you take into account the number of domains sold buy GoDaddy each year), whilst other smaller registrars are refusing to rectify the payments, meaning that effectively, many customers may be being overcharged by 3 cents per domain! All GoDaddy customers received notification via e-mail of the situation and were assured that the company was working on rectifying all mistaken payments.
However - some customers seem a tad miffed that they’re not actually receiving their 3 cent, but instead are being paid the owed money via GoDaddy credits. Credits, of course, expire in 12 months. Isn’t there some way that domain-owning-vampires can withdraw that 3 cents? What’s the beef?

Too bad I am with Namecheap.com
They ain’t not so cheap, ya’ know!
But 3 cents, hah! tell them to throw it to hell - for all I know, GoDaddy credits benefit none but them, because we will have to dish out extra cash to buy even the cheapest domain(probably .info).

The 3 cents may not be much, but you need to consider that some people buy thousands of domains (read:squatters). Those pennies will add up with a large domain portfolio.

[…] I came across this post by David Wilkinson, and decided to look through me email. That’s when I made the wonderful discover - GoDaddy is issuing refunds after ICANN overstated its per-year fee (22 cents). So, how much will you get back? You may want to sit down for this - a whopping 3 cents per domain. Well, actually, they’re giving you a 3 cent credit, for future purchases through the company. […]
