Leopard Delay Till October - Thanks To ‘Top Secret’ New Feature

Rumours are already flying thick and fast about the reasons behind Apple pushing back the Leopard launch till October, and speculation is rife as to what could have caused the delay. A feature that has been discussed ever since the iphone launch, has been the arival of a touch-screen capable OS-X, and personally, I’m backing this as the killer feature which is causing the delay. An AppleInsider report released publicly yesterday, has quoted American Technology Research analyst, Shaw Wu as purportedly informing clients that “while Apple cited a shift in resources to iPhone and more time for developers to beta test as reasons for the delay, our analysis indicates that if not for the ’secret’ features, the core Leopard operating system would likely have shipped on time.” AppleInsider however, refused to speculate what mysterious features, the new operating system might include which have pushed the launch timeframe all the way back from Spring, to October, but thankfully, Gizmodo chimed in with their own thoughts.

I’m backing Gizmodo on this one!

Yes - I’m liking the sounds of TimeWarp.
However personally, I can see an iPhone-like touchscreen making it’s debut (or at least breing announced) within a year or so. We know what Apple is like when it comes to wild rumours…
They listen - then create. Rumours are the best type of customer feedback, and it’s all free!

I installed the latest developer seed yesterday. There’s nothing new or exciting, and a bug I reported in the last build, incorrectly calculating space on large mounted NFS server volumes, is still present and Apple acknowledged that it was a known bug. I see very little in Leopard that makes me want to upgrade.

Maybe Apple will need a new killer feature then to steal the show?
If I was gonna upgrade to Leopard, Core Animation and Time Machine, truth be told, are the only real things that get me remotely excited. But I dunno, a touchscreen…

I don’t think a touchscreen would be good on a computer monitor- look at the tablet!

Have you seen the HP TouchSmart though? You can just touch the monitor and use it without a mouse. They use their own frontend software to make it easier to work with. I mean the Windows Desktop was hardly designed for touchscreens now, was it?

OS X with touch-screen? For what?
Apple are cramming useless features(but very marketeable, like this one), in an attempt to beat Vista. Whatever
Its not a tablet-PC look-alike, is it? What reason do they expect to have to justify the extra $$ that us customers will have to dish out?
And “killer feature”? Yuck.

I for one would use the touchscreen features! Imagine how much further graphics design could progress? And it’d mean that RSI wouldn’t hit me as much from over-excessive mouse use.
Tablets just suck. Don’t think tablets.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m a massive Vista fan (and loyal user) but the driver issues are causing me to tear my hair out.
