Computer Arrival
No idea why a Digg button is showing for my article I did on ProBlogger.net - I didn’t put it there. Perhaps a pingback to this article in the comments? Anyhow…
Hmm… My computer which was scheduled to arrive today never did. I was holding on, and my mum even stayed home, from work to make sure everything came fine. Ah well. Tomorrow is a new day, and if the PC is one day late, I’ll live.
The fact that the coming gave a definite date though, then when we rang to check with customer service at 3PM today, it was again confirmed, is rather disappointing. I expected better.

you made your mom stay home from work so she could answer the door and sign for your computer ???

Yeah… Kinda.

Oh yeah!

If I were you, I’d build my own. Shuttle are great if you want to go down the SFF route. If you’d rather just go all out for insane performance, Coolermaster are the badgers nadgers. It’s really not as hard as companies make out.
Parts - I’d go AMD for processors, because they tend to run cooler, and be a touch more stable. For the rest, Seagate are awesome, Sony do good DVD rewriter bits and bobs, and RAM is much of a muchness.
Oh, and you can have hours of fun playing with UV tubing and making it look tres awesome!

This was indeed the original plan, as it’s much cheaper too. As for components, Intel Core 2 far outperforms all the current AMD offerings, I wouldn’t dream of it! But yeah, the modding, UVness, lights & windows are the real kicker with custom built systems.
Truth be told, I’m far too lazy anyhow.

What kind of computer did you get?
February 13th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
It’s still not arrived. :S Two days late! I’m getting very worried now. It was my dream PC… 2GB of high clocked RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, Nvidia GeForce 8800, Sound Blaster X-Fi.
That said, in Vista Ultimate, I’m not sure how good the X-Fi will hold up… I’m sure you’ve heard the stories… Kind of worrying! :S

Yeah, I know the feeling of waiting for things in the mail. Except, when it comes, that exciting feeling of “is it going to come today” goes away. On the other hand, you will have some nice kit to play around with.

Ahhh you’re making me feel like my computer is ancient history! It’s only a year old

Times change quickly with technology. Six months ago we were raving about GPUs with 12 pixel shaders, and now we have cards with 128+!
